Ingredients
Dough Ingredients
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Topping Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients and Equipment: Read through the recipe completely and gather all ingredients and necessary equipment, including an air fryer, pastry bag with star tip or plastic bag, and a mister bottle with oil.
- Combine Liquid Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine water, milk, butter, and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Add Flour: Remove pan from heat and stir in the all-purpose flour with a wooden spoon until fully incorporated.
- Cook Dough on Heat: Return saucepan to medium heat, stirring constantly for 2 minutes until the dough forms a smooth, cohesive ball.
- Cool Dough Slightly: Transfer dough to a large mixing bowl to cool.
- Beat Dough: Using an electric mixer, beat the dough for 3-5 minutes until fluffy to cool it, preventing the eggs from cooking when added.
- Mix Eggs and Vanilla: In a small bowl, whisk together eggs and vanilla extract.
- Incorporate Eggs: Gradually beat the egg mixture into the cooled dough, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Scrape down sides of bowl to ensure smooth dough.
- Prepare Pastry Bag: Fill a disposable pastry bag fitted with a #1M open star tip, or a plastic zipper bag (cut corner off after filling) with the dough.
- Pipe Churros: Pipe 3-inch churros directly into the air fryer basket, spacing them appropriately. Adjust size to fit basket or make smaller bites if preferred.
- Oil Churros: Lightly mist the piped churros with oil using a mister bottle to help browning and crispiness.
- Air Fry Churros: Cook in the air fryer at 380°F for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
- Prepare Cinnamon Sugar: While churros cook, mix the 1 cup granulated sugar with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon in a medium bowl.
- Coat Churros: Remove churros immediately from the air fryer and toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
- Cool and Serve: Set churros on a baking rack to cool slightly. Serve warm with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, or Nutella for dipping.
Notes
- Make sure to cool the dough before adding eggs to prevent them from scrambling.
- Use an air fryer basket with enough space to allow heat circulation for even cooking.
- Adjust churro size to fit your air fryer basket; smaller churros cook faster.
- For extra crispiness, spray a bit of oil before air frying.
- Serve churros immediately for the best texture and flavor.
- Leftover churros can be reheated in the air fryer to regain crispiness.
