Description

This simple and delicious baked pears recipe features ripe pears baked with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until golden and tender, making a perfect warm dessert or snack for any occasion.

Ingredients

Pears

  • 4 large pears

Butter and Sugar Mixture

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spray an oven-safe pan with nonstick cooking spray to prevent the pears from sticking while baking.
  2. Prepare pears: Slice each pear in half lengthwise. Using a cookie scoop or melon baller, carefully remove the seeds and core from the center of each pear half. Arrange the pear halves in the prepared pan, skin-side down. Place about 1 teaspoon of salted butter in the center of each pear half.
  3. Add brown sugar and cinnamon: In a small bowl, mix together 8 teaspoons (approximately 2 1/2 tablespoons) of light brown sugar with 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Evenly sprinkle 1 teaspoon of this sugar-cinnamon mixture over each pear half to add a delicious sweet and spiced flavor.
  4. Bake pears: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the pears are golden brown and have softened to your liking. The butter and sugar will caramelize slightly, giving the pears a beautiful glaze.
  5. Serve: Remove from oven and add any desired toppings such as a dollop of whipped cream, a sprinkle of nuts, or a drizzle of honey before serving warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute salted butter with unsalted butter plus a pinch of salt if preferred.
  • For a vegan option, use vegan butter or coconut oil instead of butter.
  • Add toppings like vanilla ice cream, chopped walnuts, or a drizzle of maple syrup for extra flavor.
  • Choose ripe but firm pears such as Bosc or Anjou for the best baking results.
  • Watch the pears closely during the last few minutes to avoid overcooking and turning mushy.
