Ready in just 5 minutes, it’s a decadent and easy dessert that’s perfect for a quick treat or special occasion.
Ingredients
Sundae Sauce
- 1.5 Tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1.5 Tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 banana (ripe, but firm, sliced)
- 2 Tablespoons rum
Toppings
- 1 Tablespoon unsweetened coconut (toasted)
- 1 Tablespoon macadamia nuts (chopped, toasted)
Ice Cream
- 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
Instructions
- Melt the Butter and Sugar: In a sauté pan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter and brown sugar together until the mixture is smooth and begins to bubble.
- Caramelize Bananas: Add the sliced bananas to the pan and cook for a couple of minutes, stirring gently, until the bananas are coated in the caramelized sauce and it becomes bubbly.
- Add Rum: Pour in the rum carefully and continue cooking for another one to two minutes, allowing the alcohol to cook off and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Assemble Sundae: Spoon the warm bananas foster sauce over 1/2 cup of vanilla bean ice cream in a serving dish or bowl.
- Add Toppings: Sprinkle the toasted unsweetened coconut and chopped toasted macadamia nuts evenly over the top to add texture and flavor.
Notes
- Use firm, ripe bananas to prevent them from becoming too mushy during cooking.
- To toast coconut and macadamia nuts, lightly toast in a dry skillet over medium heat until golden brown and fragrant.
- For an alcohol-free version, omit rum and add a splash of vanilla extract instead.
- Serve immediately to enjoy the contrast of warm sauce against cold ice cream.
