Ingredients
1 lb breakfast sausage
1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2 cups milk
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
1/2 tsp dried thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage and set aside, leaving some of the drippings in the pan.
- In the same skillet, whisk the flour into the drippings and cook for 1-2 minutes until it turns a light golden color.
- Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- Season the gravy with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes (if using), and thyme (if using).
- Cut the biscuit dough into quarters and arrange the pieces evenly in the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spoon the cooked sausage evenly over the biscuits, then pour the gravy mixture over the top. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
