Description

Broken Glass Jello Bars are a colorful and fun dessert featuring a crunchy lemon Oreo crust topped with vibrant, multi-flavored jello cubes suspended in a creamy gelatin and sweetened condensed milk mixture. This no-bake recipe combines bright colors and zesty flavors to create an eye-catching treat that’s perfect for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 1 package lemon Oreo thins
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted

Colored Jello Cubes

  • 5 packets (3 oz each) assorted Jello flavors (orange, raspberry, lemon, lime, blueberry)
  • 5 cups boiling water (1 cup per jello packet)

Gelatin Mixture

  • 2 packets (0.25 oz each) unflavored gelatin
  • 7 cups boiling water, divided
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups water (for gelatin mixture)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Colored Jello: In 5 separate containers, each large enough to hold more than 1 cup, dissolve one packet of flavored jello powder in 1 cup of boiling water per container. Stir constantly for about 2 minutes until fully dissolved. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set firmly.
  2. Make Lemon Oreo Crust: Process the lemon Oreo thins in a food processor until they resemble fine sand. In a large bowl, mix the crushed Oreos with melted butter until combined into a loose, wet sand-like texture.
  3. Form Crust: Press the Oreo mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9×13-inch tall-sided dish to create the crust layer. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to chill and firm up.
  4. Prepare Jello Cubes: Remove the set jello from the refrigerator and loosen the edges by setting containers in warm water briefly. Slide the jello out onto a cutting board and cut into 1-inch cubes.
  5. Arrange Jello Cubes on Crust: Place the colorful jello cubes randomly over the chilled lemon Oreo crust in the dish.
  6. Make Gelatin Mixture: In a large bowl, dissolve 2 packets of unflavored gelatin in 2 cups of water, stirring for about 2 minutes. Add the sweetened condensed milk and stir thoroughly until smooth.
  7. Combine and Chill: Pour the gelatin and condensed milk mixture over the jello cubes gently. Press the exposed jello cubes down to submerge them slightly, creating a fairly smooth top layer. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firmly set.
  8. Serve: Use a warm knife to cut the bars into cubes or squares. Serve chilled for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Use a warm knife to cut the bars cleanly without cracking the gelatin layer.
  • Feel free to mix and match jello flavors and colors to customize your broken glass bars.
  • Allow sufficient chilling time for each stage to ensure firm layers and easy assembly.
  • These bars are best served cold and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
