Description

Caramel Apple Jam is a sweet, spiced preserve made with apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and pectin. It delivers all the cozy flavors of caramel apples in a spreadable, spoonable jam perfect for fall breakfasts or holiday gifting.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups peeled, cored, and finely chopped or grated apples (about 45 medium apples)
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (3 oz) liquid pectin or 1.75 oz powdered pectin
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

Peel, core, and finely chop or grate the apples.

  1. In a large saucepan, combine apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), butter, and salt. Simmer over medium heat for 10–15 minutes, or until apples are soft and juicy.
  2. Stir in brown sugar and granulated sugar. Bring mixture to a full rolling boil.
  3. Add pectin and boil hard for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. To test for doneness, place a small amount on a chilled plate. If it thickens after cooling, it’s ready. If not, continue boiling for 1–2 more minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract if using.
  6. Ladle jam into sterilized jars if canning or into clean glass containers for refrigerator storage.
  7. Allow to cool completely. Refrigerate or water bath can for long-term storage.

Notes

  • Use firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best flavor and texture.
  • For added richness, stir in a splash of vanilla or maple syrup after cooking.
  • Jam thickens more as it cools—don’t overcook.
  • Store refrigerated jam for up to 3 weeks; canned jam lasts up to 1 year unopened.
  • Great for gifting during the fall and holidays.
