Ingredients
1 loaf of French or Italian bread
1 lb ribeye or flank steak, thinly sliced
1 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 bell pepper, thinly sliced (green, red, or yellow)
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 ½ cups provolone or mozzarella cheese, shredded
1 stick butter, softened
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Slice the loaf of bread lengthwise, leaving a small hinge at the back.
-
Hollow out the center of each bread half to make space for the filling.
-
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the steak for 3-4 minutes until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
-
Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until vegetables are softened.
-
Stir in Worcestershire sauce and remove from heat.
-
In a small bowl, mix butter with garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, and parsley. Spread the mixture evenly on the inside of both bread halves.
-
Fill the hollowed-out bread with the steak and vegetable mixture. Top with shredded cheese.
-
Close the loaf and wrap it in aluminum foil. Bake for 15-20 minutes until bread is crispy and cheese is melted.
-
Unwrap the loaf and bake for an additional 5 minutes to crisp up the top.
