Description

Cheesy Mushrooms are a savory, satisfying appetizer or side dish made with sautéed mushrooms, melted cheese, garlic, and herbs. Quick to prepare and packed with umami flavor, they’re perfect for parties or a cozy meal at home.

Ingredients

  1. 1 lb fresh mushrooms (button, cremini, or portobello), cleaned and stems removed
  2. 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  3. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  4. Salt and black pepper, to taste
  5. 1 tsp fresh thyme or 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  6. 1 cup shredded mozzarella, cheddar, or cheese blend
  7. 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  8. Optional: 2 tbsp cream cheese or sour cream for added richness

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish or sheet pan.
  2. Clean mushrooms and remove stems if desired. Slice larger mushrooms or leave small ones whole.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
  4. Add mushrooms and cook for 4–6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender and liquid has mostly evaporated. Season with salt, pepper, and herbs.
  5. If using cream cheese or sour cream, stir it into the mushrooms now.
  6. Transfer mushrooms to a baking dish and top with shredded cheese and Parmesan if using.
  7. Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden on top.
  8. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use a mix of cheeses for deeper flavor—mozzarella for meltiness, cheddar for sharpness.
  • Sautéing mushrooms helps prevent sogginess by removing excess moisture.
  • Add breadcrumbs before baking for a crispy topping.
  • This dish is naturally low-carb and gluten-free.
  • For a vegan version, use dairy-free cheese and oil.
