Ingredients
Oreo Mixture
- 24 Regular Oreo Cookies
- 4 ounces Cream Cheese, cubed
- 2-3 drops Cherry Extract
Filling
- 14-15 Candied Cherries
Chocolate Coating
- 1 Cup Dark Chocolate Morsels
Cherry Glaze
- 4 Tablespoons Powdered Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Warm Water
- 1/4 teaspoon Cherry Extract
- 1 Drop Red Food Coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Process Oreos: In a food processor, puree the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs until there are no large pieces left.
- Combine with cream cheese and cherry extract: Add the cubed cream cheese and 2-3 drops of cherry extract to the Oreo crumbs and puree again until fully incorporated into a smooth mixture.
- Form truffles with cherries: Take a walnut shell-sized amount of the Oreo mixture and flatten it into a circle in your palm. Place one candied cherry in the center, then carefully mold the Oreo mixture around the cherry to form a ball. Place each ball onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper. You should get about 14-15 balls. Refrigerate for 10 to 15 minutes to firm up.
- Melt chocolate: In a medium microwave-safe bowl, heat 1/2 cup of dark chocolate morsels on high for 1 minute and 15 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds to prevent burning. Then add the remaining 1/2 cup of chocolate morsels and stir vigorously until the chocolate is completely smooth and melted.
- Coat truffles in chocolate: Dip each chilled Oreo ball into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated. Place the coated truffles back onto the wax paper-lined baking sheet.
- Chill: Refrigerate the chocolate-coated truffles for 5 to 10 minutes until the chocolate sets.
- Prepare and drizzle glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, warm water, cherry extract, and optional red food coloring until the glaze is smooth. Drizzle this glaze over the set truffles, then refrigerate for an additional 5 minutes to allow the glaze to firm slightly.
- Store: Keep the cherry stuffed Oreo truffles refrigerated until ready to serve. They stay fresh for up to one week.
Notes
- You can substitute candied cherries with maraschino cherries if preferred, but drain them well before using.
- For a richer flavor, use cream cheese at room temperature to blend easily.
- If you prefer a sweeter chocolate coating, milk chocolate can be used instead of dark chocolate morsels.
- Red food coloring is optional and mainly for decorative appeal in the glaze.
- These truffles are best enjoyed chilled and kept refrigerated to maintain their texture.
