Description

These Chewy Nut Blondies are a delightful, sweet treat featuring a buttery base with a perfect chew, enhanced by rich chocolate chips and crunchy walnuts. They are easy to prepare and perfect for sharing at any occasion, offering a scrumptious combination of textures and flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup margarine or butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups light brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

Add-ins

  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ⅓ cup walnuts (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Melt Butter: In a large saucepan, melt the margarine or butter over low heat and then remove from heat to cool slightly.
  2. Add Sugar and Mix: Stir in the packed light brown sugar until fully combined and smooth.
  3. Add Vanilla and Eggs: Mix in the vanilla extract, then add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition to achieve a smooth batter.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to the wet mixture; stir until the batter is fully incorporated without overmixing.
  5. Prepare Pan and Spread Batter: Grease a 9x13x2 inch baking pan and spread the blondie batter evenly in the pan.
  6. Top with Chocolate and Walnuts: Sprinkle the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts evenly over the surface of the batter.
  7. Bake: Place the pan in a preheated oven at 325°F (163°C) and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but no raw batter.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and allow the blondies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into 24 squares and serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can toast the walnuts lightly before mixing them in or sprinkling on top.
  • Do not overbake to maintain the chewy texture; start checking for doneness at 28 minutes.
  • Substitute margarine or butter with vegan butter to make the recipe dairy-free.
  • Storing blondies in an airtight container at room temperature will keep them fresh for up to 3 days.
  • You can swap walnuts for pecans or omit nuts entirely if desired.
