Description

This Chocolate Cookie Dough Banana Bread is a delightful twist on classic banana bread, combining rich cocoa flavor with chunks of dark chocolate and swirls of cookie dough. Moist and indulgent, it’s perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a special snack. The recipe uses simple ingredients and bakes into a tender loaf with a gooey, chocolatey center that’s sure to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups mashed bananas
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup melted coconut oil (or melted butter)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour (all-purpose or gluten free flour)
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • pinch sea salt (optional)

Add-ins

  • ¾ cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup cookie dough (see notes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a bread loaf pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make removal easier after baking.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients. In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, egg, melted coconut oil, and vanilla extract. Stir until evenly mixed.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients. To the wet mixture, add the flour, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and pinch of sea salt. Stir gently until the batter is smooth and fully combined.
  4. Fold in Chocolate Chips. Gently fold in the dark chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  5. Layer Batter in Pan. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it out evenly to form the bottom layer of the bread.
  6. Add Cookie Dough Balls. Using a mini cookie scoop or a spoon, drop ½ inch balls of cookie dough evenly over the batter layer in the pan.
  7. Top with Remaining Batter. Spread the remaining batter on top, smoothing it out carefully to cover the cookie dough layer.
  8. Bake. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 45 to 55 minutes. Insert a toothpick into the center to check doneness; it should come out with only moist crumbs but no wet batter.
  9. Cool and Serve. Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool completely in the pan before slicing to preserve the moist texture and maintain the integrity of the cookie dough swirls.

Notes

  • You can use either all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour depending on dietary needs.
  • The cookie dough should be pre-made or store-bought; classic chocolate chip cookie dough works best for this recipe.
  • Make sure the bread cools fully before slicing to prevent the bread from crumbling.
  • For a dairy-free version, use coconut oil and dairy-free chocolate chips.
  • The cookie dough balls create delicious pockets of chewy sweetness inside the bread.
