Description
Delicious and easy-to-make Chocolate-Dipped Banana Bread Truffles combine moist banana bread with creamy cream cheese, dipped in rich milk or semi-sweet chocolate for a bite-sized dessert perfect for parties or everyday treats.
Ingredients
Banana Bread Truffle Base
- 1 loaf Banana Bread (see note)
- 6 ounces Cream Cheese, softened to room temperature
Chocolate Coating
- 10 ounces Good-Quality Milk or Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar, roughly chopped (plus extra for grating, optional)
Instructions
- Slice and Crumble Banana Bread: Using a bread knife, carefully slice off the crust from the banana bread to avoid tough bits, then crumble the remaining soft bread into very small pieces in a medium mixing bowl using your fingers or a fork.
- Combine with Cream Cheese: Add the softened cream cheese to the crumbled banana bread, then mash together thoroughly with a fork until the mixture is creamy and uniform in texture.
- Form Truffle Balls: Using your hands, roll the mixture into evenly sized balls about 1-2 inches in diameter. This should yield approximately 50 truffles, but feel free to adjust the size to your preference.
- Chill the Truffles: Place the formed truffle balls on a baking sheet lined with wax paper and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight to firm up.
- Melt the Chocolate: Melt the chopped chocolate in the microwave or a double boiler, stirring every 10-20 seconds to ensure even melting without burning.
- Dip the Truffles: Working in small batches, dip the chilled banana bread balls into the melted chocolate, then gently transfer between two forks to let excess chocolate drip back into the bowl.
- Cool the Coated Truffles: Return the chocolate-coated truffles to the wax paper-lined baking sheet to allow the chocolate to begin setting.
- Add Optional Chocolate Garnish: If desired, grate extra chocolate over each truffle before the coating hardens for an elegant finish.
- Firm Up and Store: Let the truffles cool at room temperature until the chocolate is firm, then transfer them to the refrigerator.
- Serve and Store Properly: Store the truffles in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and serve chilled for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Using a homemade or store-bought banana bread loaf works fine; removing the crust helps achieve a smooth truffle texture.
- If the chocolate hardens while working, gently re-melt it to maintain a smooth coating.
- The size of the truffles can be adjusted to your liking; just note that the number of truffles will vary accordingly.
- For extra flair, grated chocolate on top adds both texture and visual appeal before the coating sets.
- Store truffles refrigerated and consume within 5 days for optimal freshness.
