Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour (23 g)
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar (25 g)
- 1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (7.5 g)
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder (1 g)
- dash salt (0.5 g)
Wet Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons milk (any kind) (45 ml)
- 1 tablespoon canola oil (or melted butter) (15 ml)
- 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract (0.6 ml)
Add-ins
- 1 tsp chocolate chips (or your favorite baking chips) (5 g)
Instructions
- Prepare the Mug: Lightly spray the bottom of a microwave-safe mug or coffee cup with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: Add the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and a dash of salt into the mug. Stir together until well combined.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Pour in the milk, canola oil, and vanilla extract. Stir the mixture thoroughly until smooth, making sure to scrape the bottom of the mug to incorporate all ingredients evenly.
- Add Chocolate Chips: Stir in the chocolate chips or sprinkle them on top of the batter, depending on your preference.
- Microwave Cooking: Cook the mug cake in the microwave on high for 70-90 seconds. The cake should be just set but still slightly shiny on top. Cooking times may vary by microwave, so adjust accordingly.
- Rest Before Eating: Let the mug cake sit in the microwave for 1 minute to finish cooking and to cool slightly before enjoying.
Notes
- Cooking time depends on your microwave wattage; start with 70 seconds and add up to 20 seconds if needed.
- Overcooking can cause the cake to be rubbery, so watch carefully.
- You can substitute milk with any dairy or non-dairy milk alternatives.
- For richer flavor, use melted butter instead of canola oil.
- Add a pinch of instant coffee powder to enhance the chocolate flavor if desired.
