With easy preparation and baking instructions, you can enjoy 12 delicious pastries that are best served fresh but can also be stored for a few days.

Ingredients

Pastry

  • 2 packs puff pastry (thawed but still cold)

Filling

  • 170 g semi-sweet chocolate, divided

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg
  • Splash of milk or water

Instructions

  1. Prepare Puff Pastry: Thaw the puff pastry sheets if frozen but keep them cold for easier handling.
  2. Line Baking Pans: Line two baking pans with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  3. Cut Pastry Sheets: Unfold one puff pastry sheet and cut it into 6 equal rectangles as a base for the pastries.
  4. Add Chocolate: Evenly distribute half of the semi-sweet chocolate on the 6 rectangular pastry pieces to create a rich filling.
  5. Roll Pastries: Starting from the short end, roll up each pastry rectangle around the chocolate filling. Place the rolled pastries onto the prepared baking pan. Prepare the egg wash by whisking the egg with a splash of milk or water and lightly brush it over the pastries.
  6. Repeat Rolling: Repeat the rolling process with the second puff pastry sheet and remaining chocolate, yielding a total of 12 chocolate puff pastries. Bake 6 pastries at a time.
  7. Chill if Needed: If the puff pastry becomes too warm and hard to handle during preparation, chill them in the freezer or refrigerator for a few minutes, but do not force handling if too soft.
  8. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F), no fan setting, ensuring it reaches the right temperature for crispy, golden pastries.
  9. Chill Pastries: Refrigerate the prepared pastries for 30 minutes prior to baking to help maintain their shape and crispiness during baking.
  10. Bake Pastries: Bake the pastries at 200°C (392°F) for about 20 minutes or until golden brown. If they start browning too quickly, cover them loosely with aluminum foil to prevent burning.
  11. Cool Pastries: Allow pastries to cool slightly in the pan for 3 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool properly while maintaining crispness.
  12. Serve and Store: Serve these chocolate puff pastries fresh for the best taste and texture. Leftovers can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for 2-3 days.

Notes

  • Keep puff pastry cold while working to prevent it from becoming too soft and difficult to handle.
  • If pastries brown too quickly while baking, cover with aluminum foil to avoid burning.
  • For best results, serve pastries fresh but they can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
