Description

Churros with Chocolate Dipping Sauce are a crispy, golden fried pastry coated in cinnamon sugar and served with a rich, silky chocolate sauce. This classic Spanish-inspired treat is perfect for parties or cozy nights in.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar + 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for coating)

For the chocolate dipping sauce:

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 4 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Reduce heat and add flour all at once. Stir vigorously until a dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Remove from heat and cool for 5 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each until smooth.
  4. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Pipe 4–6 inch strips of dough into hot oil, cutting with scissors. Fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden.
  7. Remove and drain on paper towels. Toss in cinnamon sugar while warm.
  8. For the sauce, heat cream and milk in a saucepan until simmering. Remove from heat, stir in chocolate until melted. Add sugar and vanilla if desired.
  9. Serve churros warm with chocolate sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Churros are best served fresh but can be reheated in the oven to restore crispness.
  • Use a star piping tip for the classic ridged texture.
  • Add chili powder or espresso to the chocolate sauce for extra depth.
  • Fry in small batches to maintain oil temperature.
  • You can prepare the dough ahead and fry later.
