Description
Churros with Chocolate Dipping Sauce are a crispy, golden fried pastry coated in cinnamon sugar and served with a rich, silky chocolate sauce. This classic Spanish-inspired treat is perfect for parties or cozy nights in.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar + 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for coating)
For the chocolate dipping sauce:
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 4 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Reduce heat and add flour all at once. Stir vigorously until a dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Remove from heat and cool for 5 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each until smooth.
- Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Pipe 4–6 inch strips of dough into hot oil, cutting with scissors. Fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden.
- Remove and drain on paper towels. Toss in cinnamon sugar while warm.
- For the sauce, heat cream and milk in a saucepan until simmering. Remove from heat, stir in chocolate until melted. Add sugar and vanilla if desired.
- Serve churros warm with chocolate sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Churros are best served fresh but can be reheated in the oven to restore crispness.
- Use a star piping tip for the classic ridged texture.
- Add chili powder or espresso to the chocolate sauce for extra depth.
- Fry in small batches to maintain oil temperature.
- You can prepare the dough ahead and fry later.
