The easy-to-follow steps yield a beautifully marbled loaf that combines classic flavors with comforting warmth.

Ingredients

Cinnamon Bread Dough

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk (whole, not fat free)
  • 8 tbsp butter (1 stick, melted)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Swirl

  • 4 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup pecans (finely chopped)

Frosting

  • 1 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp cream
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350ºF. Line a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan with parchment paper and spray it with cooking spray to ensure the bread doesn’t stick.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening agents and salt.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Form the Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; the batter should be mixed enough that no pockets of flour remain but not overmixed.
  5. Prepare Cinnamon Swirl Mixture: In a small bowl, mix melted butter with brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and finely chopped pecans.
  6. Layer Batter and Swirl: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Spoon half of the cinnamon mixture over the batter and use a knife to swirl it gently. Repeat by adding the remaining batter and topping it with the remaining cinnamon mixture, swirling again.
  7. Bake Bread: Bake for 40 minutes. Then tent the loaf with foil to prevent overbrowning and bake for an additional 13-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Cool Bread: Let the bread cool in the pan on a wire rack for one hour before removing it to ensure it sets properly.
  9. Make Frosting: Combine softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons of cream in a mixing bowl. Beat with a hand mixer until smooth. Add additional cream to reach desired thickness.
  10. Frost and Serve: Drizzle the cinnamon cream cheese frosting over the cooled bread. Slice and serve.

Notes

  • Make sure to not overmix the batter to keep the bread tender.
  • Use whole buttermilk for the best flavor and texture.
  • If you prefer, substitute pecans with walnuts or omit nuts entirely.
  • Adjust the amount of cream in the frosting for thicker or thinner consistency based on preference.
  • Store leftover bread covered at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate.
