Description
Cinnamon Sugar Twist Donuts are soft, fluffy donuts twisted into fun shapes, fried to a perfect golden brown, and coated in a sweet cinnamon-sugar mixture for a crunchy finish.
Ingredients
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
3/4 cup whole milk
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
Vegetable oil, for frying
1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
1 tbsp ground cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast in warm water and let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- Combine the warm milk, melted butter, sugar, and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Stir well to combine.
- Add the yeast mixture to the milk mixture and stir until smooth.
- Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until the dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut the dough into strips 1 inch wide.
- Twist each strip into a spiral or knot shape.
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry the donut twists in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove the donuts and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Mix together the cinnamon and sugar. While warm, roll the donuts in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- For extra crispy donuts, fry at a slightly higher temperature (375°F or 190°C).
- If you prefer baked donuts, use a donut pan and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12–15 minutes.
- You can refrigerate the dough overnight for quicker morning prep.
- For a glazed option, dip fried donuts in a powdered sugar glaze instead of cinnamon-sugar.
- If using margarine instead of butter, the flavor may be slightly different, but it will still work.
