Description

Cinnamon Sugar Twist Donuts are soft, fluffy donuts twisted into fun shapes, fried to a perfect golden brown, and coated in a sweet cinnamon-sugar mixture for a crunchy finish.

Ingredients

2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast

1/4 cup warm water

3/4 cup whole milk

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

3 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp salt

Vegetable oil, for frying

1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)

1 tbsp ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast in warm water and let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine the warm milk, melted butter, sugar, and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Stir well to combine.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the milk mixture and stir until smooth.
  4. Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until the dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut the dough into strips 1 inch wide.
  7. Twist each strip into a spiral or knot shape.
  8. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry the donut twists in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  9. Remove the donuts and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  10. Mix together the cinnamon and sugar. While warm, roll the donuts in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  11. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  1. For extra crispy donuts, fry at a slightly higher temperature (375°F or 190°C).
  2. If you prefer baked donuts, use a donut pan and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12–15 minutes.
  3. You can refrigerate the dough overnight for quicker morning prep.
  4. For a glazed option, dip fried donuts in a powdered sugar glaze instead of cinnamon-sugar.
  5. If using margarine instead of butter, the flavor may be slightly different, but it will still work.
