Description

Crispy Chinese Honey Garlic Chicken is a flavorful and mouthwatering dish that combines crispy chicken with a rich honey garlic sauce. It’s perfect for dinner or special occasions, offering a restaurant-quality meal at home.

Ingredients

1 lb chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces

1/2 cup cornstarch

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 egg, beaten

Vegetable oil, for frying

For the sauce:

1/4 cup honey

2 tbsp soy sauce

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp rice vinegar

1 tsp grated ginger

1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Dip each chicken piece into the beaten egg, then coat it thoroughly with the flour-cornstarch mixture. Shake off any excess.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on a paper towel.
  4. For the sauce, in a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and grated ginger. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  5. Stir in the cornstarch-water mixture to thicken the sauce, cooking for another 2-3 minutes until it’s glossy and thickened.
  6. Toss the crispy chicken in the honey garlic sauce, ensuring each piece is coated evenly. Serve hot!

Notes

  1. For extra crispiness, avoid overcrowding the pan while frying the chicken.
  2. To make this dish gluten-free, use a gluten-free flour blend and cornstarch.
  3. Reheat the chicken in the oven for extra crispiness if reheating.
  4. You can prepare the sauce ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator.
