Description

The Grilled Cheese Sandwich is a classic comfort food made with crispy, buttery bread and perfectly melted cheese. Quick, satisfying, and endlessly customizable, it’s perfect on its own or paired with tomato soup.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread (white, sourdough, or your choice)
  • 4 slices cheese (American, cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, or your favorite)
  • 2 tbsp butter or mayonnaise (for spreading)

Instructions

  1. Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. Spread butter or mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice.
  3. Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, on the skillet. Add cheese slices on top.
  4. Place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side up.
  5. Cook 2–4 minutes, pressing gently with a spatula, until golden brown.
  6. Flip and cook the other side until golden and cheese is fully melted.
  7. Remove from skillet, slice, and serve hot.

Notes

  • Cook over medium-low heat to prevent the bread from burning before the cheese melts.
  • Cover the skillet briefly to trap heat and help the cheese melt faster.
  • Mayonnaise makes for an extra golden crust with a tangy flavor.
