Description
The Grilled Cheese Sandwich is a classic comfort food made with crispy, buttery bread and perfectly melted cheese. Quick, satisfying, and endlessly customizable, it’s perfect on its own or paired with tomato soup.
Ingredients
- 4 slices bread (white, sourdough, or your choice)
- 4 slices cheese (American, cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, or your favorite)
- 2 tbsp butter or mayonnaise (for spreading)
Instructions
- Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Spread butter or mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice.
- Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, on the skillet. Add cheese slices on top.
- Place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side up.
- Cook 2–4 minutes, pressing gently with a spatula, until golden brown.
- Flip and cook the other side until golden and cheese is fully melted.
- Remove from skillet, slice, and serve hot.
Notes
- Cook over medium-low heat to prevent the bread from burning before the cheese melts.
- Cover the skillet briefly to trap heat and help the cheese melt faster.
- Mayonnaise makes for an extra golden crust with a tangy flavor.
