Description

These Best Oreo Cookie Bars are a festive and delicious holiday dessert featuring layers of rich, buttery cookie dough and crunchy Christmas Oreos, topped with mini chocolate chips and colorful Christmas M&M’s. Easy to make and perfect for sharing, these bars combine classic cookie flavors with a fun holiday twist.

Ingredients

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt

Mix-ins & Toppings

  • ¾ cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1 cup crushed Christmas Oreos (plus 9 whole Oreos for layering)
  • ¼ cup Christmas M&M’s

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper to ensure the bars can be easily removed after baking.
  2. Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, use a mixer to blend the softened unsalted butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar until the mixture becomes light, fluffy, and well combined.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in the eggs, vanilla extract, and salt, stirring until the batter is smooth and fully incorporated, ensuring even flavor throughout the dough.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the wet ingredients, stirring just until the dough begins to come together to avoid overmixing which can toughen the bars.
  5. Fold in Mix-ins: Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips, Christmas M&M’s, and most of the crushed Christmas Oreos, reserving some for topping to create texture and festive color.
  6. Press Base Layer: Press about one-third of the cookie dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan, forming a firm base layer for the bars.
  7. Layer Whole Oreos: Arrange 9 whole Christmas Oreos in a single, uniform layer over the pressed dough, adding a fun and crunchy surprise inside the bars.
  8. Add Remaining Dough: Spread the remaining cookie dough gently over the Oreo layer, pressing carefully to cover them completely without disturbing the cookie arrangement underneath.
  9. Add Decorative Toppings: Sprinkle the remaining crushed Oreos and Christmas M&M’s over the top of the dough for an attractive, festive finish that adds additional crunch and color.
  10. Bake the Bars: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until the top turns golden brown and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out mostly clean, indicating doneness.
  11. Cool and Slice: Remove the pan from the oven and allow the bars to cool for 10 to 15 minutes in the pan to set before slicing them into squares for serving.

Notes

  • Make sure not to overmix the dough when adding flour to keep the bars soft and tender.
  • Using parchment paper makes it easier to lift the bars from the pan without breaking.
  • Allowing the bars to cool before slicing helps them hold their shape better.
  • For added flavor, use Christmas Oreos specifically for a festive holiday touch.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
