Ingredients
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Salt to taste
1/4 cup chopped parsley (optional for garnish)
Instructions
-
Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
-
In a large skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook for 6-7 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.
-
In the same skillet, add more butter if needed. Sprinkle in the flour and stir to cook for 1-2 minutes, forming a roux.
-
Gradually add chicken broth while stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook and stir for 3-5 minutes until the gravy thickens.
-
Add milk and stir until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
-
Return chicken to the skillet and spoon gravy over it. Simmer for 2-3 minutes to allow the chicken to absorb the gravy.
-
Garnish with parsley if desired and serve with your favorite sides.
Notes
- You can add vegetables such as peas, carrots, or mushrooms to the gravy for extra flavor.
- Substitute chicken thighs for chicken breasts for a juicier option.
- To make it spicy, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the gravy.
- For a low-carb version, serve over cauliflower mash instead of mashed potatoes
