Description

Honey Sesame Chicken is a savory, sweet dish with crispy chicken and a sticky honey sesame sauce. It’s quick and easy to prepare, perfect for busy nights or family dinners. The balance of honey, soy sauce, and sesame oil creates a deliciously rich flavor, while sesame seeds and green onions add texture and color. Serve this flavorful dish with steamed rice and vegetables for a complete meal that’s sure to please everyone!

Ingredients

2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces

1/4 cup cornstarch

1/4 cup flour

Salt and pepper to taste

1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

1/3 cup honey

1/4 cup soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated

1 tablespoon sesame seeds

2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine the cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. Toss the chicken pieces in the mixture, ensuring each piece is evenly coated.

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the chicken and cook for 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy, stirring occasionally for even cooking.

  • While the chicken cooks, prepare the sauce by whisking together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger in a small bowl.

  • Once the chicken is crispy, remove it from the skillet and set it aside. Pour out any excess oil and return the skillet to medium heat.

  • Add the sauce to the skillet and simmer for 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.

  • Return the chicken to the skillet and toss to coat it in the sauce. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the chicken and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to glaze the chicken.

  • Garnish with sliced green onions and serve immediately with rice and vegetables

Notes

  1. For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes or chili paste to the sauce.
  2. You can substitute the chicken with tofu or cauliflower for a vegetarian version.
  3. To reduce the sweetness, use less honey or add more soy sauce.
  4. Baked chicken is a healthier option; bake at 400°F for 20 minutes instead of frying.
