Description
These healthier jelly donuts offer a delightful twist on the classic treat, using store-bought homestyle biscuit dough and an air fryer for a lighter, less greasy version. Filled with your favorite raspberry jelly, then dipped in melted butter and coated with sugar, these donuts are quick to prepare, perfect for a sweet breakfast or snack.
Ingredients
Donut Base
- 1 package of homestyle biscuits (such as Pillsbury Grands!)
Filling
- ½ cup raspberry jelly (or your favorite jelly flavor)
Coating
- ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the air fryer: Spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with oil or use a parchment paper liner to prevent sticking.
- Arrange biscuits: Open the biscuit package and place four biscuits in a single layer into the air fryer basket, cooking in two separate batches.
- Air fry the biscuits: Cook on the ‘Bake’ setting or at 330°F for 6 minutes until golden brown.
- Melt butter and prep sugar: While the biscuits cook, melt the butter and pour into a bowl. Pour sugar into a shallow dish or zippered bag for coating later.
- Fill the pastry bag: Attach a long pastry or star tip to a pastry bag, fill it with jelly, and set aside for filling the donuts.
- Remove cooked biscuits: Carefully take out the golden-brown biscuits from the air fryer. Repeat the cooking for the remaining four biscuits.
- Create jelly cavities: Use a knife to pierce each biscuit creating a hole without cutting all the way through. Insert the pastry tip into the hole and fill with 1-2 tablespoons of jelly by applying medium pressure while slowly withdrawing the tip.
- Coat the donuts: Dip each filled donut into the melted butter, coating both sides thoroughly, then toss them in the sugar until fully coated.
- Finish the remaining donuts: Repeat the filling and coating process with the rest of the biscuits to complete the batch.
Notes
- Use parchment paper liners if your air fryer basket is prone to sticking.
- Adjust jelly filling quantity to taste; avoid overfilling to prevent leaking.
- Butter and sugar proportions can be adjusted for preferred sweetness and richness.
- Serve donuts warm for the best flavor and texture.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container; reheat briefly in the air fryer or oven to refresh.
