Ingredients
Truffles
- 1 package Oreo cookies (about 36 cookies)
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 4 candy canes, crushed
Coating
- 1 package chocolate almond bark or melting chocolate (about 12 ounces)
- Extra crushed candy canes for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Crush the Oreos: Using a food processor or placing the cookies in a sealed bag, crush the Oreo cookies finely until you have a uniform crumb texture.
- Mix with cream cheese: In a large bowl, combine the crushed Oreos with the softened cream cheese until fully blended into a smooth, dough-like consistency.
- Add crushed candy canes: Gently fold the crushed candy canes into the Oreo and cream cheese mixture, ensuring an even distribution.
- Form truffle balls: Shape the mixture into small, bite-sized balls and arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Chill to firm up: Place the truffle balls in the refrigerator for about 1 hour, allowing them to firm up and become easier to coat.
- Melt the chocolate: Following the package instructions, melt the chocolate almond bark until smooth and ready for dipping.
- Dip the truffles: Carefully dip each chilled truffle ball into the melted chocolate, fully coating them, then return them to the parchment paper.
- Garnish and set: Sprinkle extra crushed candy canes on top of each chocolate-coated truffle while the coating is still wet for added texture and color.
- Allow to set: Let the chocolate coating set at room temperature or place the truffles back in the refrigerator until the coating is firm and hardened.
Notes
- Softened cream cheese should be at room temperature for easy mixing.
- Use a piping bag or fork for dipping if preferred to avoid mess.
- Store the finished truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- For a stronger peppermint flavor, add a few drops of peppermint extract to the mixture.
- Ensure chocolate almond bark is melted gently to prevent burning or seizing.
