Description

Delicious and fudgy One Bowl Brownies that are easy to make with simple ingredients. This recipe produces rich, chocolatey brownies with a perfect balance of sweetness and a slightly crispy top, made in just one mixing bowl for minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Brownie Batter

  • 1 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Dutch-processed or unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Chocolate

  • 1 ¼ cups chopped chocolate, divided (1 cup mixed into batter, ¼ cup for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9×13 inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray, then line it with parchment paper leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal. Spray the parchment paper again to ensure the brownies won’t stick. Set the pan aside.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the sugars are fully dissolved. This creates a smooth, sweet base. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Sift the all-purpose flour and cocoa powder into the wet mixture to avoid lumps. Add the kosher salt and, if using, the espresso powder to enhance the chocolate flavor. Gently stir the mixture until just combined—do not over-mix to keep the brownies tender.
  4. Fold in Chocolate: Fold 1 cup of chopped chocolate into the batter for added texture and chocolate bursts. Then, spread the batter evenly into your prepared pan. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of chopped chocolate evenly over the top for a delicious chocolate topping.
  5. Bake the Brownies: Place the pan on the middle rack of the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. The brownies should be just set to the touch and still slightly soft in the middle—avoid overbaking. The brownies will firm up as they cool.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan. Use the parchment paper overhang to lift them out easily. Optionally, sprinkle with flaky sea salt before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

  • Do not over-mix the batter to avoid tough brownies.
  • Use parchment paper with an overhang to easily lift the brownies from the pan after baking.
  • Espresso powder is optional but enhances the chocolate flavor.
  • Allow brownies to cool fully before cutting to ensure clean slices.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle flaky sea salt on top just before serving.
