Description
One Pot Spaghetti with Sausage Sauce is a quick, hearty, and flavorful meal where everything—from browning the sausage to cooking the pasta—comes together in a single pot. It’s the perfect comfort food for busy weeknights with minimal cleanup.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy, casings removed)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
- 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 12 oz dried spaghetti
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning (or a mix of oregano, basil, thyme)
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
- Fresh basil or parsley (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Add sausage and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.
- Add chopped onion and cook for 4–5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes and broth. Stir in salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Add spaghetti directly into the pot, breaking in half if needed to fit. Press down to submerge in liquid.
- Cover and bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add extra broth or water as needed if sauce becomes too thick.
- Once pasta is tender and sauce is thickened, remove from heat.
- Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan and fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
- Use gluten-free pasta if needed; adjust cooking time and liquid accordingly.
- Add vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini for extra nutrition.
- Swap sausage for ground turkey or beef for a lighter option.
- Stir in cream or cream cheese at the end for a creamy version.
- This dish reheats well and is great for meal prep.
