Description
Pear Crisp is a cozy, rustic dessert made with sweet, tender pears and topped with a buttery oat crumble. It’s quick to assemble and perfect served warm with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream.
Ingredients
- 5–6 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, toss sliced pears with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Spread the pear mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt. Add cold butter and mix with fingers or a pastry cutter until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the pears.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
- Add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts for extra crunch.
- Use firm, ripe pears like Bosc or Bartlett for best texture.
- Substitute part of the sugar with maple syrup for deeper flavor.
- To make ahead, assemble and refrigerate unbaked for up to 24 hours.
- Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 4 days.
