Description

Pear Crisp is a cozy, rustic dessert made with sweet, tender pears and topped with a buttery oat crumble. It’s quick to assemble and perfect served warm with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 56 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, toss sliced pears with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Spread the pear mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt. Add cold butter and mix with fingers or a pastry cutter until crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the pears.
  6. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  7. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • Add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts for extra crunch.
  • Use firm, ripe pears like Bosc or Bartlett for best texture.
  • Substitute part of the sugar with maple syrup for deeper flavor.
  • To make ahead, assemble and refrigerate unbaked for up to 24 hours.
  • Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 4 days.
