Description
Cheesy Witch Hat Crescents are a spooky and fun Halloween appetizer made by wrapping gooey string cheese inside flaky crescent roll dough shaped into witch hats, then baked to golden perfection. These festive treats are quick to prepare, perfect for parties or themed family snacks, and customizable with decorative touches like olives and herbs.
Ingredients
Dough & Cheese
- 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 count)
- 4 string cheese sticks or mozzarella cheese, cut in half
Seasoning & Toppings
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried Italian herbs (optional)
- Black sesame seeds or poppy seeds (for decoration)
- Olives, peppers, or chives (optional, for decorations)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Prepare Dough: Unroll the refrigerated crescent dough and separate it into 8 individual triangles. Lay them flat on the prepared baking sheet spaced evenly.
- Add Cheese: Take each string cheese stick and cut it in half. Place one half at the wide end of each crescent triangle to serve as the filling.
- Shape Hats: Carefully roll the dough from the wide end over the cheese towards the pointed tip, shaping it into a cone that resembles a witch’s hat. Pinch the edges tightly to seal in the cheese and prevent leakage during baking.
- Brush & Season: Combine the melted butter with garlic powder and optional dried Italian herbs. Brush this mixture evenly over each crescent roll, then sprinkle black sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top for the look of hat details.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10–12 minutes. Bake until the crescents are puffed up and golden brown in color.
- Decorate & Serve: After baking, add optional decorations such as olive slices to mimic hat buckles or chive ribbons around the hats. Serve warm as a tasty and festive appetizer.
Notes
- Seal edges tightly to prevent cheese from leaking out during baking.
- Shape the tips into sharp points to resemble realistic witch hats.
- Avoid overstuffing with cheese; less cheese prevents bursting and allows even baking.
- Serve on a spooky platter with thematic dips like marinara or ranch for added flavor and presentation.
