1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon paprika
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, water, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard.
- Add the garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, remove it from the heat.
- Serve the chili sauce generously over hot dogs and enjoy!
Notes
- Leftover chili sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Reheat the sauce by warming it in a saucepan over low heat, adding a bit of water if it’s too thick.
- This chili sauce can be made ahead and tastes even better after the flavors meld together.
- The sauce freezes well for up to 3 months. Just allow it to cool completely before storing it in an airtight container or freezer bag.
