Description

Whole Wheat Autumn Apple Pizza is a sweet-savory seasonal pizza featuring thinly sliced apples, melty cheese, fresh herbs, and a wholesome whole wheat crust—perfect for fall dinners or festive gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 ball whole wheat pizza dough
  • 2 apples (Honeycrisp or Gala), thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella or Fontina cheese
  • ¼ cup crumbled goat cheese or feta (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or rosemary
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Arugula, for topping (optional)
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it heats.
  2. Roll out the whole wheat dough on a floured surface to desired thickness. Transfer to a baking sheet or pizza peel.
  3. Brush the dough lightly with olive oil.
  4. Toss sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  5. Sprinkle mozzarella or Fontina cheese over the dough.
  6. Arrange the apple slices and red onion evenly on top.
  7. Add crumbled goat cheese or feta, if using, and sprinkle with thyme or rosemary.
  8. Season with salt and black pepper.
  9. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until crust is golden and cheese is melted and bubbling.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and top with arugula, if desired.
  11. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • Toss apple slices in lemon juice to prevent browning.
  • Use blue cheese instead of goat cheese for a stronger flavor.
  • Add chopped nuts for crunch.
  • Top with arugula after baking for freshness.
  • Drizzle with hot honey for a sweet and spicy finish.
