Description

Create a fun and interactive Caramel Apple Board perfect for gatherings or snack time. This recipe features fresh apple slices served with a variety of sweet and crunchy toppings alongside rich caramel sauce for dipping. Easy to assemble and customizable with numerous toppings, this platter offers a delightful mix of flavors and textures for all to enjoy.

Ingredients

Fruit

  • 6 apples
  • Fresh lemon juice or lemon-lime soda (enough to prevent browning)

Toppings

  • Chopped nuts
  • Toffee bits
  • Sprinkles
  • Shredded coconut
  • Mini M&M’s
  • Crushed graham crackers
  • Crushed Oreos
  • Granola
  • Peanut butter
  • Melted chocolate

Dips

  • Caramel dip or salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the board and toppings: Place a large board or platter on your working surface. Arrange all chosen toppings into small bowls and neatly place them on the board for easy access.
  2. Slice the apples: Use a sharp knife or apple slicer to cut the apples into thin slices. To keep the apple slices from browning, either squeeze fresh lemon juice over them or soak the slices in lemon-lime soda for 10 minutes followed by draining just before serving.
  3. Arrange apple slices: Place the prepped apple slices on the board alongside the bowls of toppings and set out wooden skewers nearby.
  4. Assemble caramel apples: Carefully spear an apple slice with a wooden skewer, dip it into the caramel dip or salted caramel sauce until coated, then roll the caramel-covered slice in your choice of toppings. Repeat for each apple slice and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Using lemon juice or lemon-lime soda helps prevent browning but should be applied right before serving for best freshness.
  • Choose a variety of toppings to offer different textures and flavors for guests.
  • For a nut-free version, avoid chopped nuts and peanut butter; substitute with seeds or safe toppings.
  • Melted chocolate can be drizzled over finished caramel apples for an extra indulgent touch.
  • Serve immediately after assembly to maintain the crispness of the apples and the integrity of the caramel coating.
