Description
A quick and easy Chocolate Dump Cake recipe that layers dry cake mix, dry pudding mix, butter, milk, and chocolate chips for a rich, moist dessert. Perfect for effortless baking, this dump cake delivers a luscious chocolate flavor topped with optional ice cream or whipped cream.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 15.25 ounces chocolate cake mix (1 box) (do NOT prepare according to package directions)
- 3.9 ounces instant chocolate pudding mix (1 box) (do NOT prepare according to package directions)
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 12 ounces chocolate chips
Optional Toppings
- Ice cream
- Sweetened whipped cream or whipped topping
- Additional chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat and Melt Butter: Place the butter in a 13×9 inch baking dish and put the dish in the oven. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Monitor the butter until it melts completely. Once melted, stir the butter to evenly coat the bottom of the dish and remove from the oven.
- Layer Cake Mix: Sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix evenly over the melted butter, spreading it with a fork or the back of a spoon to cover the bottom completely in a flat, even layer.
- Layer Pudding Mix: Sprinkle the dry instant chocolate pudding mix evenly over the cake mix, again using a fork or spoon to create an even layer.
- Add Milk and Chocolate Chips: Drizzle the milk over the pudding layer. Gently tilt and swirl the pan to distribute the milk as evenly as possible. Press down gently with a spoon or fork to help the milk absorb into the dry mixes and cover any dry spots. Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly on top.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven at 350°F for 35-40 minutes. The top should look set – soft and slightly jiggly but not runny or hard. Avoid overbaking to maintain moistness.
- Serve: Allow to cool slightly and serve warm with optional toppings like ice cream, whipped cream, or extra chocolate chips.
Notes
- Do not prepare the cake or pudding mixes according to their package instructions; use them dry as layers.
- Use a glass or nonstick baking dish to prevent sticking and facilitate easier cleanup.
- Check on the butter as it melts to avoid burning, stirring to coat the pan thoroughly.
- Be careful not to overbake; the cake should remain soft and moist inside.
- Optional toppings add flavor and texture but are not necessary.
