Description

These delicious and easy-to-make Salmon Patties are perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a tasty appetizer. Made with canned salmon, fresh herbs, and a tangy Greek yogurt sauce, they are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Ready in just 20 minutes and serving 8, this recipe combines simple ingredients with flavorful seasoning for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Salmon Patties

  • 2 (6-ounce) cans salmon, drained
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs, divided
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Yogurt Sauce

  • ⅓ cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon capers, drained
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Salmon Mixture: In a large bowl, flake the drained canned salmon into small chunks with a fork. Add thinly sliced green onions, chopped fresh dill, egg, Dijon mustard, lemon zest, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined. Stir in ¼ cup of breadcrumbs to bind the mixture together.
  2. Make the Yogurt Sauce: In a medium bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, drained capers, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and refrigerate the sauce to chill while you cook the patties.
  3. Form Patties: Shape the salmon mixture into eight equal-sized patties using about ¼ cup of mixture per patty. Place them on a plate and coat each patty evenly with the remaining 2 tablespoons of breadcrumbs, pressing gently to make them stick.
  4. Cook the Patties: Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the salmon patties in a single layer without crowding the pan. Cook for about 4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve: Remove the cooked patties from the skillet and serve warm with the chilled Greek yogurt sauce on the side for dipping or drizzling.

Notes

  • Make sure the canned salmon is well drained to avoid soggy patties.
  • Adjust salt and pepper to taste, especially if using salted canned salmon.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika or cayenne pepper to the salmon mix.
  • Use gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free version.
  • The patties can be baked at 400°F (200°C) for about 15 minutes as a healthier alternative to frying.
