Description
Crispy Onion Rings made with parmesan cheese baked to golden perfection, offering a crunchy, flavorful alternative to traditional fried onion rings. These oven-baked rings are seasoned with paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper, and are perfect served with ranch dip for a tasty appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
Cheese Layer
- 1 (8-ounce) block parmesan cheese, shredded (or cheddar cheese)
Onion Rings
- 2 small white onions, sliced into ⅛-inch thick rounds
- Avocado oil cooking spray
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
For Serving
- Ranch dip (as desired)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400℉ (204℃) and line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Prepare the Cheese Base: Spread the shredded parmesan cheese evenly over the bottom of the parchment-lined baking sheet in a thin, even layer, which will melt and form the crispy base for the onion rings.
- Arrange Onion Slices: Place the sliced onion rounds on top of the cheese layer so that the rings are touching but not overlapping, allowing even crisping during baking.
- Season and Spray: Lightly spray the onion rings with avocado oil cooking spray to enhance browning and crispiness. In a small bowl, mix together paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper, then sprinkle the seasoning evenly over the onions.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the onion rings are crispy and golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the onion rings to cool for 5 to 10 minutes so they can crisp up further. Once cooled, carefully break them apart and serve warm with ranch dip or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- You can substitute cheddar cheese for parmesan for a different flavor profile.
- Make sure onion slices are evenly cut to cook uniformly.
- Use avocado oil spray or any high smoke point oil spray for best results.
- Let the rings cool before handling to ensure maximum crispiness.
- Serve immediately for best texture, as they may lose crispness if left out too long.
