Description
This Hawaiian Fruit Salad combines a delightful mix of fruit cocktail, pineapple, mandarin oranges, mini marshmallows, and a creamy blend of sour cream and orange gelatin, creating a refreshing and sweet side dish or dessert that’s perfect for gatherings or potlucks.
Ingredients
Fruit
- 1 30-oz can fruit cocktail in juice
- 1 20-oz can pineapple chunks in juice
- 1 8-oz can mandarin orange slices
Other Ingredients
- 1 10-oz bag mini marshmallows
- 1 24-oz container sour cream
- 1 box orange flavored gelatin (Jell-O)
Instructions
- Drain the fruit: Pour all the canned fruit into a colander set over the sink and allow the juices to drain completely. Leave the fruit to drain for approximately four hours to ensure it is dry. For better results, place a bowl or towel under the colander and refrigerate. If short on time, pat the drained fruit dry with a clean kitchen towel.
- Mix the base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sour cream and the orange gelatin powder. Stir well until the gelatin is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth and homogenous.
- Add fruit and marshmallows: Add the drained fruit and the mini marshmallows into the sour cream and gelatin mixture. Gently stir until all ingredients are evenly coated with the creamy gelatin mixture.
- Chill: Transfer the salad to the refrigerator and chill for at least one hour to allow flavors to meld and the gelatin to set. For best texture and flavor, chill for four hours or overnight if possible.
- Serve: Before serving, give the salad a gentle stir to refresh the mixture. Serve the Hawaiian Fruit Salad chilled as a sweet side dish or dessert.

- Draining the fruit well is essential to avoid watery salad.
- Mini marshmallows add a unique texture and sweetness, but can be omitted if desired.
- The salad improves in flavor and texture the longer it chills.
