Description

This refreshing Lavender Lemonade blends the aromatic floral notes of dried culinary lavender with tangy freshly squeezed lemon juice, sweetened naturally with honey and sugar. Perfect for summer gatherings or a relaxing brunch, this homemade lemonade offers a beautiful balance of sweet, tart, and fragrant flavors, optionally enhanced with a touch of blue or purple food coloring for a visually stunning presentation.

Ingredients

Lavender Syrup

  • 2 cups water (454 grams)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (100 grams)
  • ¼ cup honey (88 grams)
  • 3 tablespoons dried culinary lavender (8 grams)

Lemonade

  • 4 cups water (908 grams)
  • 2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (454 grams, from 10-12 lemons)

Optional Garnish and Additions

  • Blue or purple food coloring (optional, to enhance color)
  • Lemon slices (optional, for garnish)
  • Dried culinary lavender for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil Sugar and Water: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 2 cups of water and granulated sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  2. Add Honey and Lavender: Once the sugar is dissolved, turn off the heat and stir in the honey and dried culinary lavender to infuse the syrup with floral flavor.
  3. Steep the Lavender: Allow the mixture to steep for 2 hours to let the lavender fully release its aroma and taste. You can steep for less time if you prefer a milder lavender flavor.
  4. Strain the Syrup: After steeping, strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve, pressing down on the lavender to extract all the infused syrup.
  5. Combine Ingredients: In a large pitcher, mix the freshly squeezed lemon juice with the lavender-infused syrup and the remaining 4 cups of water. Stir well to combine.
  6. Add Color and Garnish: If desired, add a few drops of blue or purple food coloring to enhance the lavender hue. Serve the lemonade over ice and garnish with lemon slices and sprigs of dried lavender for a beautiful presentation.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of sugar and honey used.
  • To reduce steeping time, gently warm the lavender syrup before straining, but avoid boiling to preserve delicate flavors.
  • Use fresh lemons for the best tartness and brightness in flavor.
  • The food coloring is purely optional and can be omitted for a natural appearance.
  • Store leftover lavender lemonade covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
