Description
Melted Snowman Cookies are a festive and fun holiday treat featuring sugar cookies frosted with royal icing that drips over the edges for a melted snowman effect. Decorated with marshmallows, colorful M&Ms, and detailed with black gel icing for arms and facial features, these cookies are perfect for seasonal celebrations and are easy to make with store-bought or homemade ingredients.
Ingredients
Cookies
- 16 round sugar cookies (store-bought or homemade)
Icing and Decorations
- 2 1/2 cups royal icing (store-bought or homemade)
- black gel food coloring (or store-bought black icing tube)
- 16 marshmallows (cut in half if needed)
- 16 orange sprinkles
- M&Ms (different colors, for buttons)
Instructions
- Make the black icing: Measure 1/2 cup of royal icing separately and place it in a bowl. Use black gel food coloring to dye the icing thoroughly black. Transfer this black icing to a piping bag and cut off a very small tip for fine detailing.
- Prepare white icing piping bag: Put the remaining white royal icing into a larger piping bag and snip off the tip to allow frosting the cookies.
- Frost the cookies: Pipe the white icing onto each sugar cookie, spreading it so that it drips slightly over the edges to create the melted snowman look.
- Decorate with marshmallows and buttons: While the icing is still wet, immediately place a marshmallow near the edge of the cookie as the snowman head. Use colorful M&Ms pressed into the icing to form the snowman’s buttons down the body.
- Pipe arms: Using the black icing, pipe small stick arms extending outward from the marshmallow head on each cookie.
- Let cookies set: Allow the cookies to sit for 20-30 minutes so the icing can harden before completing the facial details.
- Decorate the face: Once set, use the black icing to pipe two eyes and a mouth on the marshmallow. Attach an orange sprinkle as the snowman’s carrot nose with a dab of white icing.
- Serve and enjoy: Your melted snowman cookies are ready to serve. Enjoy these charming, delicious holiday treats!
Notes
- If you don’t have royal icing, you can make a simple alternative with powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water.
- Cutting marshmallows in half ensures they fit nicely as snowman heads on the cookies.
- Work quickly when decorating while the icing is wet so decorations stick well.
- Use a small tip on the piping bags for more precise designs and details.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
