Description
This Protein Coffee Mousse is a delicious, creamy dessert that combines the rich flavors of espresso and dark chocolate with the nutritional boost of protein powder. Perfect for a light yet indulgent treat, it’s quick to prepare and sets beautifully in the fridge, making it an ideal make-ahead dessert for coffee and chocolate lovers.
Ingredients
Whipped Cream
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream (cold)
Coffee Mixture
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup brewed espresso (cold)
- 1/4 cup confectioners sugar (or sugar substitute of your choice)
- 2 tablespoons vanilla protein powder (or chocolate protein powder)
- 4 ounces dark chocolate (melted and cooled – or sugar-free chocolate)
Instructions
- Whip: Add the heavy cream to a chilled bowl and whip with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. This creates a light, airy base for the mousse.
- Make the coffee mixture: In a separate bowl, combine the milk, cooled espresso, confectioners sugar or sugar substitute, protein powder, and cooled melted dark chocolate. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
- Combine: Gently fold the whipped cream into the coffee mixture using a rubber spatula. Fold carefully to keep the mixture fluffy while incorporating all ingredients together.
- Add to bowls: Divide the mousse mixture evenly into serving bowls or ramekins. Refrigerate for at least 2 to 3 hours, or until the mousse is set and chilled, ready to enjoy.
Notes
- For a lower sugar option, use a sugar substitute or sugar-free chocolate.
- Be sure to cool the espresso and melted chocolate before mixing to maintain the whipped cream texture.
- Use a chilled bowl and beaters for whipping cream to speed up the process and achieve better peaks.
- Vanilla or chocolate protein powder can be used based on your flavor preference.
- This mousse can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- For a vegan adaptation, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream and use a plant-based protein powder, though the texture may vary.
