Description

This Protein Coffee Mousse is a delicious, creamy dessert that combines the rich flavors of espresso and dark chocolate with the nutritional boost of protein powder. Perfect for a light yet indulgent treat, it’s quick to prepare and sets beautifully in the fridge, making it an ideal make-ahead dessert for coffee and chocolate lovers.

Ingredients

Whipped Cream

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream (cold)

Coffee Mixture

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup brewed espresso (cold)
  • 1/4 cup confectioners sugar (or sugar substitute of your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla protein powder (or chocolate protein powder)
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate (melted and cooled – or sugar-free chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Whip: Add the heavy cream to a chilled bowl and whip with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. This creates a light, airy base for the mousse.
  2. Make the coffee mixture: In a separate bowl, combine the milk, cooled espresso, confectioners sugar or sugar substitute, protein powder, and cooled melted dark chocolate. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  3. Combine: Gently fold the whipped cream into the coffee mixture using a rubber spatula. Fold carefully to keep the mixture fluffy while incorporating all ingredients together.
  4. Add to bowls: Divide the mousse mixture evenly into serving bowls or ramekins. Refrigerate for at least 2 to 3 hours, or until the mousse is set and chilled, ready to enjoy.

Notes

  • For a lower sugar option, use a sugar substitute or sugar-free chocolate.
  • Be sure to cool the espresso and melted chocolate before mixing to maintain the whipped cream texture.
  • Use a chilled bowl and beaters for whipping cream to speed up the process and achieve better peaks.
  • Vanilla or chocolate protein powder can be used based on your flavor preference.
  • This mousse can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • For a vegan adaptation, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream and use a plant-based protein powder, though the texture may vary.
