Description
This Starbucks Copycat Cheese Danish recipe brings the classic flaky, buttery pastry filled with a rich, sweet cream cheese mixture right to your kitchen. Perfectly golden and tender, these danishes are an easy-to-make treat ideal for breakfast or an indulgent snack.
Ingredients
Danish Pastry:
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
Cream Cheese Filling:
- 4 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature)
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Egg Wash:
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pastry: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the thawed puff pastry sheet into 6 equal rectangles. Place the rectangles onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and set aside.
- Cream the filling: In a stand mixer bowl fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the cream cheese and powdered sugar. Cream them together for 2 to 3 minutes until smooth and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.
- Fill the pastries: Transfer the cream cheese mixture into a pastry bag or a resealable plastic bag with one corner cut off. Pipe the filling down the center of each puff pastry rectangle, leaving the edges clear.
- Apply egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water until combined to make an egg wash. Brush the edges of each pastry with the egg wash to give them a beautiful golden brown color when baked.
- Bake the danishes: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and allow the cheese danishes to cool for a few minutes before serving to let the filling set slightly and to prevent burning your mouth.
Notes
- Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature to achieve a smooth filling without lumps.
- Thaw the puff pastry sheet completely before cutting to prevent cracking.
- You can add a sprinkle of powdered sugar on top after baking for extra sweetness and decoration.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for longer freshness.
- For a fruit variation, add a spoonful of your favorite jam or fruit preserve on top of the cream cheese before baking.
